i recently put a very dependable mercruiser 7.4, into a new (used) boat i picked up.i did drain the tank and added fresh fuel.there must be alot of crap in the bottom of the fuel tank, that didnt pump out, and that the fresh fuel is loosening up.ive had to drain the stock merc fuel filter/seperator a few times already.hopefully all the crap will get out of the tank soon. in any event, i was wondering if any of the replacement filter/ seperators such as a racor can be used instead of the merc brand. the racor has a bowl that can be drained without removing the filter.in other words, can i just unscrew the merc filter and replace it with a racor...or do i have to change the whole filter housing.thanks in advance
