2003 mercruiser 135hp alpha 1 drive on an 18ft bowrider. This weekend, the engine started fine in harbor. We travelled at normal cruising speeds for about 20-30 minutes and then decided to anchor for about an hour. Once I started up the engine(turned over fine) i shifted into forward gear. The engine immediately died. I tried this 6-7 times with the same result. The last time, I let it idle for about 10 minutes and then slowly shifted it into forward gear....I increased the throttle slowly and we were underway. We cruised for another 30 minutes with no problems.

This year we changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter, rotor and distributor cap, oil & oil filter-all OEM
changed the gear lube
also added a fuel/water separator.

Im new to all this...does this sound like a problem or a fluke...Im worried to take the boat out again and risk getting stuck...
