Really nice guy - also met the production line supervisor for the '99 350 Mariner line..too cool!

This was at the Slalom Shop, Lewisville, TX. They are the new Carver dealer in the DFW area. Toured several new Carvers - anyone have a spare $1.5 million for the 56 Voyager?? WOW - it's NICE!! This one had a lower helm delete (lake boat) and a HUGE C-shaped couch instead.
 
I LOVE the "sky lounge" option. (lower helm delete), although we have yet to sell one as ours always have the helm. ai've never met Rick, but have met alot of people at the factory and all are really nice people! They are a pleasure for a dealer to work with.
 
How many peoplr really drive their boats from below ? I never do, but then I dont have that option either.
 
I feel like I'm closed in when I'm running from down there...I hate it...gimme a bridge any day
 
I prefer a bridge - although I almost bought an older boat (Trojan 32) that had the lower helm - I probably would've done what I could to remove it and get more salon area.
 
i'm always on the bridge even though i've got a lower helm and sometimes boat when it's cold. around here, you need the view to stay clear of the crab pots.
 
If they'd make more workable flying bridges you wouldn't need the lower helm. Way back when, Carver had figured this out, since they and Hatteras were the only boat companies offering real solid windshields with windshield wipers instead of venturi type ones. But the tastes of the buying public, meaning the casual boater who insists he's never venturing out in anything but a zephyr and bright sunshine, have dictated a major change there...

IMHO the flybridge should be a comprehensive control center for the boat in all types of weather, as close to a pilothouse as you can get. Then you don't need to screw around with a lower helm...
