Miami - Nantucket live on Webcam...

Hey, when I click on the kml file (for Google Earth), I just get a dump of the file, but no graphics. Is it a browser setting or something?

for the kml file to work, you need google earth installed on your workstation. Go to Google and google "Google Earth".

Looks like you're going pretty fast, first image I got was a bridge a quarter mile away, the next frame it was nowhere in sight. Are you sure that's not a no wake zone? :D

On G/E the orange line has a back track... Was that a lunch break ?

His hat flew off in the wind, they had to back track to get it. It was an awesome grab off the port side of the bow with the boat hook! Didn't you see him?

Last image at 4:44 has Pascal headed for a dock and no update afterwards. Maybe he unhooked the camera so we couldn't see his docking skills ? :)

Thanks Bob. I assumed it might work with Google Maps online.

17:06:05. Safely tucked in the slip. Looks like about 9 miles today. This is gonna take a LOOOOOOONG time...

The person on the dock may have had questionable skills so Pascal turned off the cam to avoid any embarrasment to the marina. Did the person on the dock know what a spring line was for?

GE link doesn't work on an Apple MAC with GE installed, but what else is new?

George, in rainy Swansboro NC.

I'll try again...

re: google earth file

I don't know if this is the best way, but this works for me:

Download the *.kml file to your machine.
Run GE
File->Open the file you downloaded.
It should automatically display the tr4ack and zoom to the current location.

hope that helps.

Bob,
They started today from the Miami area. They went a lot farther than 9 miles. I think the route was reset somehow during the day.

I saw something on the track that looks like a trip to someone's house. Party or what?

Well after the usual long trial and error, I figured out that you had to "save linked file as", delete the original extensions and replace with a "kmz" extension. Still looks kinda funky compared to Pascal's excellent kmz files on his site for Biscayne Bay and the Keys, the track seems to start on Lake Worth and bounce around. I do note that one of the overlays is a bunch of tide stations, so this may be serving some double duty.

All in all a very cool idea, which I should be copying, in all truth.

George

The link works on a mac, you just save the file without the .txt extension. Save it as helmcam.kml, and it will open just fine.

we're at Loggerhead marina in north palm beach tonight... signal isn't too good up here that's why the cam has been on and off. You dont' need any skill to drive this boat, it's a ***** cat! i dont' even need to use the grinders :-)

this leg was slow... lots of bridge and nwz but scenic... Olivier, I saw the Harley in the canal, about an hour after you called. nice location you're in!!!

GE is not 100% reliable, especially the track. if it gets a location fix that's off, it will draw a line to and from... you can also open the KML file in google map but it doens't refresh automatically

tomorrow we'll be inside again, up to Melbourne/cocoa. then Wed. we're going to go outside thru port Carnaveral, I don't want to go thru the ICW by ponce inlet, it's just too shallow there... dredging not finished.

Eric, we should be in SSI on thursday night... i hope to see you and lisa!!

Mike (NC)... yep... I do want to meet you when we get to Nantucket... i'm probably going to be spending a few days there before flying back home.

George, which section have you run inside so far? we're doing Canaveral - St Aug - SSI - Beaufort outside. Beaufort - charleston - georgetown - bald head inside.

Abalmuth, yes, Waterays marina, in Aventura...

bald head - cape fear, not sure yet, i was going to do it inside but i see that Lockwood Folly is once again a major issue...

Pascal, thanks for taking us fussy children along with you. Have a nice comfortable trip.

Let me know when you are close to Norfolk, VA. I'll swing down to meet you and buy the first round.
