More than 100 yachts destroyed in Italy

Apparently the breakwater has been beefed up a few years ago but that wasn’t enough.

Some of the most violent weather I have ever flown has been in Italy. My one and only reactive wind shear warning in my career was in Rome. It is easy to be lulled into the "Med Climate" fable there but it actually can get quite violent on the Peninsula.

Between Hurricanes, storms, etc, I wonder how many boats are destroyed per year vs how many are built?
I know I have heard that the used boat market is tough, but you would think prices head up if supply is dwindling.
Or is the demand dwindling as well since someone who loses a boat may think twice about getting a new one?

Some of those big boy yachts take years to build and by companies that build only a few a year.

I have seen water spouts as large and violent as a midwest tornado in the Med.

One day off of Rome I spotted 6 water spouts in simultaneous action.
