My mom loved the delta. I was born in Lodi and mom and dad lived near the delta at the time. Times were rough and they used to go to Herman and Helens and bank fish for catfish for our dinner table. When I was three, they tied me to a tree with rope with just enough scope to get me to the edge of the water where I could get my line wet. They used to use small tobacco sacks filled with sand for weights because lead was too expensive and they used to tie cheese cloth around the bait to keep the little stripers from stealing the bait. After my dad died in 1980, my brother and I returned every year to the delta with my mom and our aunts where we stayed at Vieira's. We went out in the boat in the morning and in the afternoon they would barbeque under the trees and have cocktails. Great times.....my mom loved the delta.
