Mounting a flag

I had a few extra gift certificates from Cabelas, so I decided to buy some unneeded items.

I bought a flag, with flag pole, that is designed to mount in the stern light holder. Not wanting to put the flag in the current stern light holder on the starboard side, because it's on the same side as the ladder and I didn't want anyone using it as a grab rail, I bought another stern light holder. I plan to install it this sping on the port side.

I figured I'd wire it up, so that if I ever wanted to, I could put the stern light in either side. I figured I'd just run some wire to the current stern light holder and tie the whites/greens/blacks (whatever colors) together.

Tell me this: Is my plan flawed anywhere?

I put a bigger pole midship infront of our exaust stack its on a hinge with a hydraulic ram to raise and lower to clear bridges we fly a 12x18 foot flag the pole was formaly a sailboat mast how perfect! finally found a good use for their stick!

not sure why you'd wnat to got thru the trouble to wire a second socket, although i guess if one fails because of corrosion you can switch to the other one... i prefer the flag to be in the middle of the transom, instead of on the side, it's easy to screw a flag pole holder and be done with. or if you have a grab rail along the transom, use a rail mount.

Don, I think that was uncalled for on your part.......

Don thought this topic was "Mounting a Fag", so he was interested, but then got dissapointed so he lashed out in retaliation!

Bob,

I don't see any issues with your plan except to make certain only one of your stern lights is illuminated at any time. Like Pascal said, though, the best location is centered on the transom. If you have a warm place to work on it I'll come over and give you a hand.

BTW, I tried to email you a few weeks ago but the email kicked back. Drop me a note when you get a chance so I'll have your current email address.

IT'S A JOKE, JODON. Lighten up already. Bob's a big boy.

tis the Season- Be jolly.

Bob you cannot just tie (whatever colors) together. The white connects to the white, green connects to green and black goes to the black. I hope that keeps you from needlessly blowing your fuse. I trust you see the flaw.

OK, I may rethink the placement then. I kinda like the idea of it being centered. No warm place to work, unless you consider the driveway in wintertime warm... Thanks anyway. I think by the time my driveway warms up, you'll be living in your new house!

P.S. I sent you an email. If you sent to my yahoo account, I don't check it very often, sorry.

Thanks, yes, I guess I wasn't clear. I figured I would tie all the like colors together, but I just haven't checked the stern light holder to see exactly what colors there are.

Bob - dunno what kind of flag you got or how big it is, but have you thought of clamping it to the support for your top? It angles back nicely toward the stern and might look cool.

If not already mentioned when connecting the wires you are best served to use crimp connectors and not wires nuts.

I also installed a light/flag ( on my arch ).... if you need some advice on wireing.....send me a PM.

Ooooo, I like that idea! How could I clamp it so that I could fly the flag with the bimini either in the deployed or in the store position (with the boot on)?

Would crimping be better than soldering and heat shrinking tube?

I think I read somewhere that soldering is prone to fail on boats.
