Am ready to mount my 200hp merc ob on a 23"
aluminum setback bracket.
Boat is 1981/21 cris-craft scorpion.originaly I.O.
Boat has complete new transom/string's/deck.

Bracket(used) has same angle degree as transom(13degres and predrilled that match merc ob.

Was told to mount bracket to a height where as the cavitation plate on ob to be 2" above the bottom of keel.

Just wanting second opinion,or advise.

Thanks to this rorum i got the info on painting aluminum (alumniprep33/alodine 102 )

THat is the normal mounting height. However I understand that you can go slightly higher if the engine is farther away from the transom. But I dont know that formula so I would stick with the 2 inches.

If Mercs are like Johnsons you have several mounting holes in the engine bracket, so after you mount the engine you can still raise or lower it a couple inches either way. So I'd go with the 2" at the center mounting hole on the engine.

My engine is on a jackplate so I can raise or lower it underway. I've found that while raising the engine gets a bit more speed, sometimes it gets "interesting" in a turn.
