I posted this on Ask the Capt with no response so I figured I'd post it here.
I'm moving east to the Albany area from Buffalo. I used to have a 24' small cruiser and used to frequent the Eastern Lake Erie area and Upper Niagara before I was deployed for 18 months.
I no longer have a boat but am in the market for a 29'-35' cruiser or sedan bridge, in the $50K-$60k range. I really want twins, especially having to cruise on the river. We expect to cruise west and north along the canals at slow speed and want to eventually make the trip south to our RO friends in the lower Hudson Valley. At first we'll take short trips south to get the hang of it.
I will be working in Latham and am currently looking to move towards southern Renns county.
I've been looking at the Castleton Boat Club, the Troy Canoe and Boat Club and the Crescent Boat Club's web sites.
We're looking forward to learn river boating in our quest to learn under different circumstances.
Can you swim in the Hudson south of Troy? Where do boaters go to hang out and raft? What't the story on boat clubs vs marina's along the rivers? My wife and I are counting on the social side of boating to meet new friends.
Can anyone recommend web sites where I can learn more of cruising on the Hudson / Mohawk in the Capital Region?
Any advice or suggestions are appreciated. If you know of a boat for sale in my range, please send me the info.
Thanks.
Jim
