Almost a year after launch, I fianlly installed the inboard electric motor on Sabrosura... It's supposed to be th equivalent of a 10hp motor, powered by a 48v bank ( 8 golf cart batteries) and run by a sevcon controller.
So far so good. It's pushing th boat nicely at very low power setting. Haven't run any test yet to see top speed and range as we re really jsut going to use it when th wind dies down coming back and to assist for occasional docking. We still intend to do most maneuvers including picking up or dropping th mooring, the old fashion way, under sail!
The motor is connected to the shaft via a 2:1 belt driven reduction and turns a 10" 3 blade prop.
For n ow the batteries are going to be charged by a pro mariner charger when tied up to the club dock or to my boat. The bank is used only for propulsion, we have a 12v g31 house battery with a solar panel.
I may add solar panels for the new bank, although storage is an issue so not sure about it yet,
