"SMARTSVILLE, Calif. -
Authorities arrested an Auburn man on suspicion of being drunk when he crashed a powerboat into another boat on Englebright Lake on Saturday night, killing a 42-year-old woman and her daughter.
The Yuba County Sheriff's Department identified the two Penn Valley residents as Cynthia Peterlin and her 12-year-old daughter.
Jeffrey Sandow, 54, was charged with two counts of manslaughter after he crashing into another boat about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, deputies said.
The mother and daughter were killed and another was injured in the second boat.
One person in the boat police said Sandow was operating was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police said evidence suggested that Sandow was drunk at the time of the crash.
The incident was under investigation.
As of Sunday evening, Sandow remained in the Yuba County Jail. His bail is set at $100,000.
