My wife has talked me into purchasing a boat next year. I have never driven anything bigger then a 18' Lund so I was a little shocked when I found out what kind of mileage Cruisers get....I should never have retired last May. As I don't want to remortgage the house again, I said why don't we get a couple more partners to share the cost. What a brilliant idea she said! Who says men can't walk and chew gum at the same time!!! To make a long story short, I have done some research into the type and size I would require to accomodate 5 bodies at any given time. The one I came up with is a Carver Riviera 28'. This baby is really roomy down below, not two big, not to small. There doesn't seem to be a lot of these available in Ontario, and ones I see are asking 15000 to 20000 bucks more than the American boats around the Great Lakes area. My questions are as follows :
1) Is it feasible to purchase a US boat and have it shipped up and what kind of $$$ are we talking for transport. I live very cose to Toronto so I'm thinking a Ohio, New York or Michigan boat.
2) What's the pro's and con's of single screw / twin screws?
3) What does a Marine Survey cost these days?
4) I know that I would have to pay GST & PST in Ontario on the selling price. I read somewhere that state tax is not applicable if the boat is delivered by the Broker/Marina.
That's all I can think of for the moment. If there's any Riviera fans out there, would like to hear your comments on this boat or anyone else for that matter.
