John, there are rental moorings, grab one and late in the aftenoon, a fellow comes out from the marina at the end of the creek and collects the fee. You can dink down there to get ice and throw out garbage.

Like anywhere else, it gets filled up on weekends.

Otherwise, you can chance it and just grab anyone's mooring, and hope they don't show up!

Hamburg is really gorgeous, calm water and great for swimming.

You can dink up through Selden Creek from there, it's a nice day trip. At the northern outlet of Selden, if you head a little north on the CT river, you can beach and walk up to the Castle.
 
I would consider a night on a mooring. Is this near EIM?
The slip fees for my group are over $450 per night.
We could all stay on a mooring and have lobster dinners and still save money!!!

It's about a mile north of Essex on the starboard side, on the chart below, it's on the very top at the right - follow the channel in.

Mike, thanks for the info. My thinking now is to arrive at Essex on a Saturday, spend 3 nights there and then go to Mystic Seaport during the middle of the week when it will be less crowded. Maybe the best thing would be to spend the weekend at the Chandlrey place where I can reserve a mooring, explore the town then, head to Hamburg Monday when it should clear out a bit, spend a night or two there and explore by dinghy, and from there head to Mystic.

Will they let multiple boats raft up to one mooring, or is that a no-no?
 
You probably can get away with it for the day, but not at night.
I don't think anyone in my group has a dink.
I had one and sold it, guess one boat can pick everyone up, then moor, then drop everyone back off.
 
In Hamburg, absolutely! The guy makes $20 on each boat, so he loves to see a few rafted up.

I am still planning to call the Sag marina on the 15th

Regarding Hamberg Cove, I would suspect this year they may restrict the number of boats on a single mooring. Last year there were several large raft-ups (12+ boats) from some folks from New York. Unfortunately the people were very loud. The rafts were swung around and anchored facing the shore line - right in front of some of the mansions there. The number "town" moorings offered are few compaired to the resident ones. The place is quite beautiful as Hogan suggests, however it is also small, and not really set-up for this many boaters. Guess we will see what "they" allow this year.
 
Does anyone have any plans on the table right now for the first week of June? I know it's not a holiday week but those holiday weeks/weekends for me are a pain with all those crazies out there on the GSB. You really cannot enjoy your boating. IMHO.

We are going away the week before the 4th, 6/23, you are welcome to join us.
I plan to organize some over-night raft-ups in some coves this year, I will let everyone know weekends.
 
June is a good month for me....I'm only working 11 days that month.... So keep me in mind for whatever. I'll be solo on weekdays.....but thats good too.
