Walter, that was definitely you then, it was around 3pm when I saw the 2 boats go by on the ocean side while we were hanging out on the beach.

If I remember correctly Dave's boat was in the lead ;) You were probably staying behind to keep an eye on him in case there were any problems :)

What route did you take ? Inlet to locks ? OR Around the point then up through plum gut ....

We are heading that way in a couple of weeks... But BI will be before the Essex leg of the trip.
 
We took ocean route. Went out fire island inlet then ran offshore to shinnecock inlet. Once there we went left but I think you can go right. Locks were closed but tides were not much so the water in locks dropped very little. We cruised north of shelter and went thru plum gut. Then course of 330 from there to red 8 which is mouth of ct. River. Easy ride until we got into sound then we saw a 3 to 5 foot swell but it was not bad. I think we went past watch hill more around 4. I was in lead because when walter trys to catch me he blows a engine. I had to cruise around 21 knots to stay on plane. EIM is very queit. Tommorrow we are gonna go to hamburg cove for a swim then head down river back out in sound to mystic. From there we will go west of fishers island then east of plum island then west of gardiners and the south of shelter to sag. Channel there looks skinny. Anyone have any tips for this area? Then its back thru locks and inside route to WHB.
So far all boats running good and weather has been good. CT river has some big currents.
 
When in Mystic, make sure to eat at the Daniel Packer Inn, the food is awesome, and they make a mighty fine martini.
 
We are heading to town now for ice cream for the dog. Walter is at the mall!!!!
 
yea thats walter roughing it ....

Dave ,,,, going east once u come in shinnecock is a tough one.. west channel much easier ... better marked...

Agree left is better, in fact I thought that was the only way, unless local destination. I stop at the gas dock by Oakland’s to top off.

There are rocks outside of the channel near sag, between the mooging area and the channel. But there is plenty of room in the channel. The area is heavily traveled and well marked, you shouldn't have any problem, just keep an eye on the chart plotter.

FYI: in todays newsday they said cablevision will have free wifi for optimium online subscribers in sag harbor starting thursday.

Well that was a wonderful few days. It was great to meet Dave, Walter, Dave's friend Larry and their families. Pat and I had a really good time.

The trip home was not very much fun. we had some engine issues with the Stbd motor near Plum Is and could only make 9 knts. 9.5 hours to get home. I think the rebuilt turbo gave up.

I now know I never want a trawler. :)
 
That sucks. We made it fine to sag. Good meeting you too. Boats in sag make mine look like a dinghy.
 
Dave .....we were at Sag Harbor Thursday.......did you see the one on the east dock ( near the crab shack ) with the 27' Fountain as a dink ????
 
there are boats with cars on them. These boats are sick. There are huge yachts here.

There are a couple of 100'+ 'Express boats' behind ours - for the last 3 hours I have been watching the crews cleaning the already clean boats(ships?) and setting up the deck chairs

BTW, Dave or Walter do you have any Grey Poupon?
