N.E Florida Fish Kill

I live on a canal in Palm Coast, FL and have been seeing lots of dead fish, particualrly Snook, floating areound.

what's the deal? Cold water or something else?

yup, lots over here as well. almost as bad as the red tide of a few years ago.
 
I just took my fishing boat out for a short run and I'm seeing slot Snook floating all over the place. breaks my heart!!

This is truly one of the great game fish on the planet and it looks like populations are being really damaged.

We have dead fish floating as far south as Sarasota. It's pretty sad - and becoming an odor issue. The birds have eaten so much they can't fly.
 
I was reading yesterday record numbers of manatees died from the cold also.
 
JohnC - yep. Over 100 at last count. The State widllife officials actually captured as many as they could round up and took them to the warmer waters by the cooling towers of a power plant. Unfortunately, you can't catch/save them all.
 
Several years ago we had a fish kill here on the OHIO River. The pool of water we are located in (between the locks) moves 20-30 ft depending on the amount of rain upstream in Pennsylvania area.

The kill was said to have been cause because of fertilizer from flooded farm fields, which I suppose did something to the available oxygen in the water.

When the pool subsided . . . . .we had fish hanging in the sapling trees all around the marina, rotting on the shore, and just floating. The sun came out and the rest I will leave to your imagination. . . . . .

Well, between this fish kill and the Gov essentially shutting down the East Coast of Florida for fishing for the time being, it's shaping up to be a pretty crappy year.
