It's been about 6 years since we've been to Napatree - and wow what a place. Our ding is not available yet (too lazy to bring the damn thing out), so we anchored with the stern to the beach - two anchor system. About 6 feet deep, 100 feet from the beach. Waided in, then to the wonderful beach side. Stripers in the surf - some guy speared one - nice sized. Watch Hill - berger and cocktails at The Olympia Tea Room. Evening stars were amazing - could see the Milky Way - can't to that in CT. Met some nice folks that go there all the time - all in all - a great boating weekend!

Never been there, but, I'm thinking about checking out spots west of Pt Judith. We did LI north and south last year, lots of great places to go on LI.

Are there moorings for an overnight stay at Napatree or is everyone anchored out? skinny water or nice depths. I need 5 to float but 10 to sleep at night.

glad to hear you had a good boating weekend, they don't always turn out that way :)

There are private moorings, but most people anchor. There is enough water 10+ feet. First picture is Napatree berm with houses behind. Second is "Aphrodite" in her home slip. Third is Yacht Club with Beach Cabanas behind.

Napatree is one of the jewels in this area as far as I'm concerned..
It was close enough to run over for the day and protected enough to stay for a long weekend..
I usually like to drop the hook on the far west end of the anchorage. A little farther from town, but I prefered to have a bit more space to myself.
Bottom is good, never had an issue holding, but that depends on your ground tackle too I suppose.
It can get busy on a good weekend day, but clears out pretty quickly and we always enjoyed it a lot..

Watch Hill/Napatree is one of the best destinations around. Watch Hill is a cute town with a carosel my kids love. Some good and excellent restaurants, and enough shops to keep you busy for a couple of hours. The ocean side beach is maybe one of the top beaches in southern New England. And the inside is nice and calm for smaller kids. The holding ground for anchoring is very good. Watch Hill Yacht club has reciprocity with other yacth clubs. If you are a member at another club, they have 5 transient moorings available on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. With that you can use their launch, dinghy dock, and bathroom facilities.

Spike I wish I knew you were around, we keep the boat just up from the beach and have a house a little further up the river.

I'm assumming to get to Napatree beach that you go up towards Stonington and around Sandy point to enter little Narr Bay. Any issues with following the marked channels?

We love Napatree too, it's a great anchorage and beach. Reminds me of some of our favorite spots in North Carolina. Getting in there from Stonington requires a little diligence, especially in a larger boat for the first time. I wrote a post here last year on how to.

Squeezing by Academy Rock and staying un-intuitively close to the northwest end of Sandy Point in particular. Coming back out in the fog once was an "interesting" experience made easier both by radar and following our track in.
