Navionics iPad app for SW Florida?

I downloaded the free app and I was wondering if the maps were worth purchasing for fishing in Charlotte Harbor and the near shore Gulf around Boca Grande.

I just did the firmware update on my Garmin but the maps are not super detailed on the mounted unit.

I was hoping to use my old 3G IPad with the Navionics app to help locate fishing spots in the harbor, to find near shore wrecks, reefs, etc.

If anyone has used this software, is it worthwhile? This is not for cruising long distance, just for the Harbor and sites mentioned above.

I'd say they are worthwhile. The charts show depth contours and structure. They are not particularly expensive to purchase so perhaps the only way to know if they would work for you is to get them and try them out. Or find someone who has them and play with them a bit to see if they contain the kind of info you are looking for.
 
I fish a lot in the Everglades National Park, 10,000 Islands area. I use both Navionics and Garmin Blue Charts Mobile and find them both to be more than adequate.

I have the $10.00 Navionics and cruise SW Florida. Whey I downloaded it the charts were free. Have they changed that?

BTW, The chart that I have is extremely accurate.

I didn't see the $10 option, but maybe I just missed it.

I just checked, the 10 app is only for the iPhone. For the iPad, they give you the program and then charge $50 for the maps. Sounds like it is worth it, though.
 
I have the $10,00 app on my android Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. They must have changed the deal.
 
I have both! phone and pad... Like the pad because I can plot a course from my living room The detail is good (to Me). You make spots, marinas, wrecks, or anything and it is saved in the app!
 
I recently like last week downloaded the $10 app for my android tablet and the maps were free as well. I found the maps to be excellent! plotted a 300 mile trip for this weekend on a friends boat being I don't have access to the on board GPS until we head down to pick it up I figured I would pre-plan the trip on my tablet, I'm very happy with the results.

Chesapeake that's why I reached out to you about the G2 card for this trip. For $10 this app is great frankly I would have paid much more!
 
Billy lll, I heard they are using that depth module in the Search for flight 370:)
Actually, What that depth module needs is a propeller and rudder with remote control. Casting it or pulling it behind the boat seems like a hassle. You should be able to toss it in the water and pilot it where you would like to check the depth such as 50 or 100 ft. out to the sides or in front of the boat.
