I am about to update my old Furuno system to have a Navnet v2 chartplotter display. My question is which charts are the best for this unit, Navionic or C-Map? I have looked at them, but cannot get a real life feal for the differences. Not only that but it is difficult to compare apples to oranges since the navionic Platnum charts are not compatable with the 1920C Chartplotter that I am getting. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I like C-Map because they are more accurate in the Bahamas. But ask around in your area and see if folks like one over the other.

I like C-Map too. I've been using them for about 4 years and find their charts to be accurate and graphically easy to read and use.
I have seen Nav's charts on a friends boat and find them equally useful but obviously have not used them in real experiences on my boat. They both have great features that are different and some that are nearly the same. My suggestion to you would be to call up the spec.'s for each and compare them closely. Making sure that you spend time looking at the features you use the most.
You probably can't go wrong with either.

C-Map is now owned by Jeppesen, who also owns Nobeltec. They are the world's largest provider of electronic charting and is also used pretty much exclusively by all aircraft being flown worldwide. Jeppesen is actually owned by Boeing Comercial Airplane Company.

I think you will be in good hands with the C Map. It also seems to be the most widely used chip type navigation. Keep in mind that the regulations state that you must use Government approved charts for navigation. C-map is not. Jeppesen Nobeltec is.

Note the disclaimer as soon as your screen comes up on any system not using the approved charts.

Canada is fussy about the use of proper approved charts if you are cruising in Canadian waters and ever have the opportunity to get boarded.

Hope this is helpful,

I've used both on a Navnet 2 plotter and it is my opinion that the CMAP version performs better than the Navionics. With the lateset firmware (which probably won't be on your new unit, but you should get it). I find the refresh and panning speeds quick.
The only one problem that I have with the CMAP charts on the Navnet2 plotter is that the plotter switches to a higher view chart to quickly (at least in my area). For example, I need to zoom in much closer to get nav aids to show than I do on other CMAP plotters.

The navionics version doesn't have this problem.

i love c-map, in fact i joined there club and get a new chip each year for like $80 or so.

i too have to agree that it redraws as fast as any other unit on the market.

Sirius Weather for NavNet systems only works with C-Map charts. Yet another reason for C-Map.

I have Navionics, C map and Garmin plotters. It depends on the area where you want to boat, and what features you want. Get a "sample" download from both Navionics and c map--and see which give the better information for your areas. Do you want bathospheric data? Which gives better detail in your area. C map has always been very responsive to consumers--at last before purchase by Jeppsen--not so sure now, since we don't see c map Amy around--or I have missed her...

c-map cusotmer service has always been top notch in my book.

I'm still here, although I now work exclusively in Club C-Map, I am not lurking around the forum as much. I am ALWAYS AVAILABLE though, just drop me a note if I can ever help: aeldridgerb2@gr5tc-map.com. Our Customer Care end Tech departments really are great, don't hesitate to give them a call.

Once again, everyone seems to have given such great advice, I don't feel needed any longer! It seems the BoaterEd members have reached a remarkable level of accumulated knowledge over the years, it's an incredible resource.

Brian, drop me a line, I'll be glad to send you a screen shot of your area.
