Looking for any assistance is sorting out how to get a Navman / Northstar 6600 unit working properly with the Navman / Northstar dual engine smartcraft (yes, old tech but so are my 2002 Mag 350 merc twin engines)

I have set up the single resistor engine cables to a 4 way junction box and the 6605 unit and I get readings on the display, but only as a single engine. The readings bounce around a bit which seems to be the unit fighting itself for readings.

I'm told on a twin engine set up each display should split to show each engine data (eg rpm shows port engine on the left and starboard engine on the right using the same display) on

I am also unable to change the 6600 unit engine set up for 1 to 2 engines when it is running (and if I force it when I start the engines it default back to 1 engine) .

If I disconnect one of the smartcraft engine harnesses the 6600 unit reads that engine correctly and vice versa.

Specs sheets say that Merc sets all engines to be a "starboard" at the factory and that I need to reprogram the ECM on the port engine to a "port" engine.

There is also some chat on forums that the pin 3 power in the canbus harness needs to be disabled for the port engine to remove two power sources, but its not clear to me how or if that helps or not.

Anyone done this before and know what I need to get changed ?

I am also told the Simrad units will also run the dual engine gateways so I guess the issue still exists.

regards

I also needed to change the one motor to identify as port.
I also cut the power coming from one motor. I would think you have to change your monitor
from a single engine to two.

I set up a SmartCraft 5000 on my 2002 Sea Ray with twin engines. I remember having to tell the port engine that it was port. It was a real long time ago but I'm sure I did it on one of the SmartCraft config screens. If you have the smartcraft system tach you can follow instructions in this manual but if you did then your engines should already have been configured. So not sure if that will help.

But there should be a screen in your northstar 6000. I have a 6000 on my boat now but it came configured at the factory.

Thanks

looks like on page 3-3 it says I'll need to tell the ECM which engine is port and starboard via a merc diagnostic tool.
