Need a dinghy: rigid or inflatable?

I am buying my first dinghy that I want to install on davits off the swim platform of my 28' Bayliner. What are the pros and cons of inflatable vs. rigid? I expect to use the dinghy to get to shore while anchored or tied to a mooring buoy, and as an emergency life raft (well, I don't “expect" that use but want to be prepared).

Also, is a motor preferred or will I likely be content rowing it? Any other considerations or recommendations?
