Then measure to other pole straight one.
Y = MX + B to figure length of the the other hypotenuess between the other pole.
The angle of the dangle equals the mass of the ass!

Ok, we can get my little boat out this weekend coming up.
I need to do it anyway like I said, guy in CT wants pics.
You think he is buying something huge!

Post the time of this event......I would like to come to the AYC and watch you guys get wet ! :)

OK.....

....seriously....if you need a hand ...give me a call.

Don, maybe you and Tony can float a dock over there :)

Walt , I have a digital tape measure . I'll bring it home tomorrow . Call me or email me to remind me tomorrow

Rob

I believe you can get pretty close by sighting down the gaps between dock planks to the inside edges of the poles and then measuring along the dock between those planks. I think that would be +/- 6 inches anyway. I did this once for all the slips at a marina and didn't get too many complaints from people using those measurements.

Naturally getting out there in a boat is way better.

You always have all the good toys..................wtf ?

LOL!! That's EXACTLY what I would remember from Calculus 3...if I remembered anything at all!

Walter, you are welcome to borrow the old dink...with the BS motor...for sentimental reasons of course!

I don't know your complete setup but a square and a laser beam (eg laser pointer for presentations) would work at night. Use the square against a straight line such as the bulk head, the laser would be seen on the pole. Marj both poles on bulk head then measure. To be anal, mark a chalk line or use a string to verify bulkhead is straight.

This sounds very easy...from the comfort of my home on the mainland.

Since it's going to be cold today, get a ball of yarn and wet it, then slowly let it out as it freezes. Keep doing so until it touches the pole on the other side. Mark the yarn on your end, reel it in and measure it!

Mike.....great idea......but what color yarn should he use ???

Walshie's post reminded me that they make laser pointers with digital readout. I don't think they are expensive because I owned one!

Good luck with the new boat
