I am buying a 2000 crownline 242, which is missing it's head. The holding tank and hoses are in place, but the actual commode is missing. My first thought is to buy a vacuflush system, I believe they make a small, self contained vac/tank system, which I believe all I would need to modify is to give a freshwater feed to the head. I am wondering if anyone has any experience retrofitting a vacuflush system into an existing traditional system...

Thanks

Yes very easy. I used a "T" off my sink, next to the head fresh water line and a one way mechanical valve available ot any plumbing supply.
I have recently taken out my VacuFlush and went with the Raritan Elegance fresh water head. Overall I was pleased with the VacuFlush in fact I still have it. It was used only 1.5 seasons. My problem was my spouse is on medications and lets just say her number 2 was the exact size of the of the venturi so only when she used it we sometimes had clogs, the Elegance has a shreder that eliminates that problem. The Elegance has 2 water level settings one is close to the VacuFlush low setting.
Both are great heads. I probably would still be using the VacuFlush if I didn't have the one "problem"

Thats great, thanks.

I wonder if the retrofit is something I could do myself? I plumbed in a pump out kit for the porta-potti on my previous boat, and am good with electrical...

The same "T" Billy talks of can be done for a manual system as well if you find the vacuflush will not fit.

Since you already have the tank and hoses in place, I would be tempted to just get the head. I recently converted our older Jabsco raw water head to a new freshwater flush. The old one worked fine, but we wanted a new, quieter head, with freshwater flush. Based on Vic's recommendations, the Raritan Sea Era would be a great, reasonably priced electric head.

We also used a T-fitting off the sink's freshwater supply hose.
