Need Babylon local water info.

Hi all

Need local info on route marked on chart.
I might be keeping my boat in Babylon next year :)
Are their any water depth issues on that route.

Thats the Bergen Pt. fuel dock / Dockside Cafe resturant canal.........its fairly deep and never been a problem as long as you stay in the markers....and be sure your in the main channel before you head east or west. A buddy of mine lives at the end of that canal.....and I've been down there numberous times..... never had a problem going to visit him or the Cafe.
 
Plenty of water in the canal. Just inside the entrance to the canal where it bends to the right (where the mark is just below the letters "BER") is very narrow. You just have to take it slow and be prepared to back down as there is a fuel dock/deli/bait shop that tends to attract many boats. The deli by the way makes some of the best sandwiches and burgers on the bay.
 
......and the dockside resturant/bar aint too bad either.
 
Not to mention Bergen Point gas is usually one of the cheapest gas dock on the GSB and now there is a free pump out on the dock.

Don,Thank you for the information. I would also like to know if your buddy, that lives on the canal, has ever had any problems with Nor'easters storms flooding the streets.
Looking forward to checking out the dockside cafe.

Eppy.....My buddy lives on Fleets Point Dr......that's the last fork on the west side of that canal. He's been there for about 6 years and has never had a problem with flooding or getting in or out of that canal.

Good Luck.......maybe we'll see you at the cafe.

What did you do.............get plastered and eat out of the dogs bowl ???

They changed owners recently...........its alot better.

Additionally, you got good water in both directions (as stated, stay in the e/w channel). You're good West up until Amityville then it get's tricky but I'm in the Anchorage just to the west and, while havent' YET done the deli thing, that general area is pretty good (even at low). Watch traffic though, the Lindenhurst and Babylon cuts are right there and with the EW traffic from the Captree Bridges, for some reason, this particular area get's pretty congested.

I have been boating in this area since 1987, I just never went up this canal.

If all goes well ,I will finally have my boat in the back yard :)

Dave and I went there with the wives around july, service sucked, food sucked. Maybe if I was plastered or stoned it would of been good. IMHO food generaly on the water around us is fair at best and expensive, I am ok with that but this place really sucked. The mixed drinks were piss poor also.

Eppy........ Good Luck with your move !!

Walter.........WOW. We've been going there for a number of years....we always thought it was pretty decent. A few times we stopped with Primo onboard....and they even served us out on the boat.

I guess we need to start hangin on the north shore a little more often.
 
Eppy you did not state what draft your boat is. I have a 34 Silverton and low tide in the Spring is a little iffy. I have not touched bottom yet but I do kick up a lot of mud after the first few hundred feet after entering the canal. I am right across from the pumpout so I do not know how it is further up where you are going.
 
You are going to like crusing the bay, there are many places to go just pay real close attention to your depth finder.
 
Bergen Point is a n excellent area, been there 10 years convenient to gas, food and bait. There are the occasional Noreasters that flood the area just a little over the docks and one time we had an extra low tide that had my boat sit on the outdrive as the outgoing tide took away most of the water. I think it was powerful winds from the north coupled with an exceptional low tide. You could actually see sand and muck spots above the water. That was once in ten years. And that resteraunt is very nice except for the knats, they are a constant annoyance.

So far living in Babylon has been Great.
Lived in Queens all my Life.
Did some yard spring cleaning today,its cool watching boats go buy when being in my back yard.
Hopefully my boat will be in the water in a couple of weeks.
Going to in joy working on my boat in the driveway.
It will be nice not having to drive 50 miles each way to get the boat ready for Splash!
