Water tank gauges have not worked since I bought my new used boat. Previous owner said he put in new sending units but they have since quit working.
On investigation it appears the previous owner had used Tempo gas tank senders. Of course these are all coroded. Tanks are aluminum So could not use Snake river. Found WEMA and ordered a unit which I got and went to install.
It appears there were 3 wires to the original sending unit a black, a red and a white. The Tempo had the white and the black hooked the red was wrapped up. My new sender has a black and a red wire.
My gauge has a spring loaded switch under it when pushed there is power in the red wire. SO
I hooked up the red to red and black to black, pushed the switch, but got no reading on gauge.
So I tried red on sender to white on gauge and black to black. Pushed switch and got reading 1/2 which is correct. BUT when I released switch the gauge went up past full. Pushed switch again and gauge read 1/2 release and it went back up past full.
OK What am I doing wrong??? or is the gauge supposed to read past full if no power??? There is also a Waste gauge which does not work next project and a Volt gauge with a switch and when pushed resds volts and when released goes back to 0.
I am not sure what to do next Any help appreciated Thanx Rick
