I have a 79 TRojan 32. I need/want to drop the rudders and refurb them. I am basically redoing all the mechanicals. I have plenty of access (no gas tanks) and lots of room to work. Loosened setscrew in collar, removed safety wire, unscrewed packing nut and gave the top of the shaft a tap, figuring it would fall out. It didn't.
I got a heavy hammer and had to really started whacking it. Did this for quite a while and finally the shaft started moving. It got down to 1/8 inch from the collar (it moved down about three inches) and got stuck again. This time, I can't get the rudder to move at all. It won't turn or go up or down in the sleeve. It is completely stuck in that position. can anyone tell me what is binding it that severely. I am at a loss on how to finish dropping it.
