Have a 85 carver mariner 36

350 crusaders ( 454's )
fair shape pretty standard boat.

Can anyone look it up for me.. I have to pay tax on this thing and
I'm hoping for this purpose the fair market value is less than what I paid a year ago.

Those guides never tell you how many samples they are using. Depending on the model and year, the sample rate could be single digits.

Yours is the one example where I might find use in a guide, especially if it told me what I wanted to hear. Check them all to find the best news. Also, don't forget to deduct for localized values if relevant (it might be).

Way too many variables. Find a happy medium by looking at internet sales, broker sales (somewhat questionable) where the market is, and remembering prices differ by areas.

You may get some help by asking a bank what they would lend based on the market value of the boat (ask them to determine a market value for you) get it written. It will usually be less since they want more security. The lower value may help you.

What sort of Tax would you be paying a year after you bought it?
Sales Tax???...Some sort of Illinois Property Tax???

I have to pay a 6.75% sales tax.. I bought the boat last year, but am only now brining it in state..

Illinois law is price or fair market value.. In this case I'm going fair market value becasue the boat has lost so much value..

When I was a kid, I use to buy and sell cars. The best way to determine the value of what you are selling is what others are listing it for in your neck of the woods. Look at the classifieds, local boats on the internet, etc. NADA is never close to the local market, at least in my neck of the woods.

There are so many variables when selling a boat (hours, upgrades, condition, etc) no one can capture that in a data base to just pump out a number.
