Need some Poles reset in Wantagh

Rumor has it that there is a barge that travels up and down the canals in my area (the north end -and I mean end - of Bellmore Creek) in order to lift boats into people's yards for the winter and then refloat them for the summer.

Does anybody happen to know what company does this and whether or not they do pole work?

There are lots of dockbuilders who do both. There are at least a half dozen who work my canal every year. Hard part is nailing them down this time of year because they are busy. Open the yellow pages to Dockbuilders and call them all and maybe you'll get one. It hasn't been a bad winter for ice so maybe they won't be too crazed.

I don't think they'll generally do poles while they are rigged for dropping boats in. They seem to set up for one thing and then go hit all the houses they can, to be efficient. A lot of the barges that haul boats don't appear to have a pump and jet on them so they can't do poles.

You might have better luck driving around and seeing one that's doing a bulkhead job near by.

They all charge about the same, I think it's typically $200-300 to reset one and $500 for a new one. But to come for a onesy-twosy job might be higher.

Ronback is a major company around my area that a lot of people use, and they work almost anywhere. But again it really doesn't matter who you get.

Also, you may know this, but, make sure they set the poles big end down. They are said to stay put better if you do that. Some guys set them tapered end down since it's easier, but the common wisdom is they can pop out easier that way.
