Just got the survey report on the donzi I'm in contract on. Seller has already agreed to take care of most of the mechanical issues. Some of the cosmetic things, he is not such as missing vee berth door, some canvas, a missing decal, etc. Would anyone review the survey and give me an honest opinion if it seems like a good value to mmove forward or not?

Sounds like little stuff. Door can't be more tan $300, canvas can be replaced but figure $500 a section, decal you can daily pick up for $50.
Just do the numbers, knock him down lower and there you go.

It is mostly little stuff if parts are actually availible. I already got him down almost 20% from asking price and he is agreeing to fix the mechanical issues from survey. I'm thinking maybe I have another $500 or so at most that he'll be willing to take off. Factoring in the transport from FL I want to make sure I still have an overall good deal before I continue moving forward

it looked like ti may have been removed by a prior owner. it's a flimsy plastic acordian door but still

Surveys are to look at the major things such as mechanical issues and structural issues you couldn't easily find. You're buying a used boat so there will be some minor blemishes you'll need to accept. That is why it is less money than new. Trying to force him to give you a "perfect" boat could cause him to walk and then you're out the survey money. If you like the boat, then move forward. Good luck.

Things like missing doors, canvas and decals should have been noticed before contract is written and survey done. The way I look at it, the survey is to find hidden issues not obvious to the potential buyer.

I agree i'm buying a used boat, problem is i'm buying the boat out of state, so seeing it at survey was my first time personally inspecting.

I'd be happy to look it over. capt(dot)bill11(at)verizon(dot)net

Where in FL is the boat located?

Split the cost of the other stuff with him.

Have bad news, starboard outdrive was found leaking when boat came up, when drive was pulled, grease had turned brown from neglect. Do surveyours generally pull a drive for inspection? I'm awaiting estimates but its going to be $$$

I would think that outdrive repair would be an expense of the seller to make things right. If its milky brown from water intrusion, I would pursue very carefully to make sure any affected parts have been replaced. If the seller refuses to sell you the boat with repairs properly made, I would walk. There are just too many really good buys out there to take on a boat with unsolved problems.

This was discovered after boat wast bought and transported. My question is should surveyor have pulled drives for inspection

Generally no. If you hired a mechanic to check the engines and drives over then pulling them would be part of it. Did you ask for fluid samples on everything?

The surveyour did mechanical as well and sampled gear lube which was clean

You may be confusing issues. If the gear lube was water free on both drives then I suspect them to still be clear and clean when tested now. The “grease” is most likely from the U-joints and gimbal bearing, water entering this area is most likely from a damaged u-joint bellows causing the contamination and brown muck. These items are NOT very costly, I’d estimate 100 for the two u-joints, 100 for the gimbal bearing, and another 100 for the bellows PLUS labor if you are not doing it yourself.
