I need to move a safe from one house to another. My guess is this safe weighs close to a thousand pounds. Who does this kind of work???

Any moving company should be able to handle that.

Take all your money out first and it will be much lighter! :)

Just make sure the truck ramp/lift has power/capacity can handle your load, I've rented one of biggest Uhaul truck with hydraulic lift just to transfer my safe(jewelry safe, about an inch solid cast iron thick) from one place to another only to find out that the lift wasn't able to lift my safe up, it was struggling goes up to halfway then it was just stay there and whining away, if I release the "up" switch, it would drops right back down, I ended up to get a truck with a folk lift to get the done safely. Don't know how heavy your safe is but mine is approx 6000 lbs .

Walter you need special equipment to move a real safe there are companies that specialize in this. Keep in mind anyone you hire now knows where you keep your safe so get references. If you need I can can get a name from one of my customers in your area, all of their stores have safes and I believe they have been using the same company for years.

There are actually safe movers. Call any locksmith who sells safe's. They will have someone.

Moving a safe is easily done by those who are familiar with them. They are heavy enough to cause major damage (or injury) for those who unknowingly make a simple mistake. A safe mover will get it done without fanfare.

Walter, I have an old safe to get rid of....a friend who has a HVAC business has a motorized hand truck for moving boilers. He said he'll take it out of the basement when I'm ready. Also, since it is in a basement, I WAS going to have another friend with a tree company come over with his crane truck.

Union Thief?

No.....they would want way to much $$$$$$........and never get the job done. :)

Walter, just heard of some famous sports figure on L.I. who had 3 safes moved and them all cleaned out of about 250k in valuables and heirlooms from my old realtor up there. Clean them out yourself 1st...

Thanks All

Jeff,
Good heads up, me, I would have left the stuff in there :(

Walter. I had a really heavy one moved. Up and down stairs.....I don't know what you do but in and out of offices/basements etc.

I called the safe movers and thought I could buy a new one for as much as they wanted.

Called my buddy the tow truck guy, said he did it all the time.. $60/hr.

Took his wrecker....had a trailer attached.

Took two straps put around safe.

Lifted with boom onto trailer.

Moved to new site. Unhooked trailer moved with boom.

Then what transporting it is only half the battle moving it within the site is the hard part.
