I know there was a thread about replacing carpeting, but I can't remember where it was. Anyway, here's my floor that was done this summer. Ripped up all the carpeting and put down Allure vinyl planking from Home Depot. The bonus was that I found three huge compartments that were unusable because they were covered with carpet.

Mike it looks great however when I am relaxing on my boat I walk around in thick gym socks. It looks like the floor would be cold on my tired old feet and I would lose the insulation from the carpet.
It does look really nice though. How slippery is the surface? I am curious.

The floor is nice (we have wood in ours too) but the extra storage is priceless!

Bill, we have throw rugs. There is a grain in the "wood" so it's not slippery at all.

Plenty of space for beer, wine, soda and water!

seems alot of us are doing that, I did my Carver 3607 with the Cherry and the stair risers with the teak re-carpeted the treads (pups need grip to climb up). Jamie (Reel Antsy) also did his Trojan F32. the stuff is great just take your time with it and the glue. you can even heat it with a heat-gun to bend it around things. Had to do alot of it in my V-berth to cover the hull curves.

Looks good I like the feel carpet but I like the look of a wood floor. I also like the access hatches you made I have no access to those areas and someday I'm sure I will need it.

Dave, I couldn't stand the dirty carpet anymore. Carpet does not make sense on a boat, it gets dirty and wet, I guess it's just a lot cheaper for the builders.

Wait til you have to access the water tank! It's under the stairs.

Did you make a template with heavy paper first and use that to cut the new flooring? Any steps and how did you trim those out?

My boat has carpet under dinette which is starting to show stains, so I am looking to replace that.
The carpet in the berths is ok, one is under plastic and the other is never used.
My issue is I have a wood floor already in the salon, so how do I match the color or do I even attempt too?
Also because dinnette is raised, I would need to cover the riser. Then where riser meets the floor at the top edge, what do you put there? I piece of metal, that would look lousy.

Best move I did make was getting rid of carpet in cockpit. That carpet used to stay wet for weeks after a rain, now it drys so quick!

Looks great Mike. I like the edges you made.
So those hatches are not original and were added by someone or they were just covered over?
Why would someone cover a hatch!

Mike
Do you have any more noise without the carpet?
I also have to replace our carpet this winter but since we run from inside most of the time I’m concerned that the Engine noise will increase with all wood flooring since the carpet deadens some of this

Here's some pictures of the flooring in Tony's Carver. The last one is of mine in my Trojan. Being in a covered slip I didn't have too much light, so the pic is not that great. But I would definetly recommend installing.

There are two types of the Allure flooring in Home Depot. The original type uses glued tabs to connect each plank. The newer, and more expensive type, uses the traditional grove and click method. Both are advertised as completely water 'Proof' and guaranteed for life.

I've read where the glued tabs may seperate over time. I've used the original glued type tabs Allure in two bathrooms of rental homes I have. So far they have held up well (~2 years). I have considered doing the cabin in my boat. If I were doing another floor, I'd be more inclined to use the newer grove and click stuff. When using the glued tabs, if you don't get it right on the first try, you are somewhat screwed. You can't just pick it up and start over again. The two planks are stuck together and when you try to unstick them, the glued surface comes with you. You may find that you have to rip up all the way to the starting wall to correct an error.

3 Years later, and the Home depot floors of my old 34C Silverton are also still holding up very well.

Looks great in the Trojan! I had thought about doing the whole boat in wood flooring but I have a ton of hatches over the engine room in the salon and I haven't seen anybody make all the cutouts look really good, plus it was beyond my skill level. I was able to source a remnant of the carpet I wanted that did the entire boat for $220.00 and I had all the materials and everything to do it for less than $300.00. Sure beats paying the pro's over 2K to do the exact same thing!

I just re-did all of the carpeting in my 370 this fall and replaced the galley flooring with an engineered product. It really updates the boats.

Redid my floors in exactly the same Allure "Teak". late last year. I also use throw rugs. If they get dirty or wet just take them up and clean them. (or replace them)

So far, this stuff is wearing like iron. I used regular tile glue to put it down because i didn;t trust the glued tabs for the long term. I hope to God I never have to try to take this stuff up. :)
