New Gennie. Need harness adapter + info

Getting a new W'beke 5.0 LoCO 1800 RPM gennie to replace my trashed old W'beke 4.5 Carb'd 3600 RPM gennie.

Problem. The 4.5 has a 15 pin harness. The 5.0 has an 8 pin harness. Are their any adapters to ease the transition? I don't want to have to pull the innards out of the boat to get this done and I don't want to have to raise the ER hatch every time I want to start the gennie.

Question. If anyone has the 5.0, have you been pleased with it? Any problems I need to address prior to purchace? Is there a need for a sound shield?

Boat is a 330 Sundancer. 1999 model.

I would call Westerbeke tech support, but I wouldn't hold my breath. To go from 15 pins to 8 pins in an adapter cord would be difficult. Did the generator come with a new circuit board or were you told it could be adapted. I would think you need need new controls to go with a different generator.

We are looking for 3 pin coil for 3 cyl Westerbeke. Would your old genset have this coil? If so, we'd be interested in buying it.

I'll check with the Mech to see if it's still good. I replied to your other post regarding alternate parts places.
 
Unfortunately with that you need new control and harness. If you supply complete model# and serial I probably can give better answer.
 
David you might be able to adapt the old 15 pin harness to the new 8 pin harness. I would think it's easier to subtract wires then add wires.
Once you have to add wires you might as well run a new harness.
You would need an electrical schematic or diagram of the new generator and hopefully you have the wiring diagram for the old remote panel.
If so send me an e-mail I'll try and make suggestions.
It looks like the old generator only has 10 wires even though it has a 15 pin connector.

This is a good point...I noticed when I changed my genie, that altho it had a multi-wire harness, there were much fewer wires actually being used, than provisioned for. I was able to tell how many were being used by checking the quantity of bullets/pins inside the connector itself, and running a lot fewer to the remote switch. Worked perfectly, and saved running a lot more wire thru my dash.
