Totally awesome weekend! Seventy degrees, water temp about 60, seas were non-challenging and winds were about 10 knots. Great seeing you Kim and Dick - and thanks for the use of your slip! And Spike, the Isles were peaceful and barren...
The Isles of Shoals have a lot of history. They were the scene of double murder in the 1800's and allegedly have ghosts; Captain John Smith landed there in 1614; supposedly there's buried pirate treasure; Mark Twain, Emerson and Hawthorne vacationed there; I drank a fine single malt scotch there...
Here's Star Island where Cornell and the University of New Hampshire have a Marine Laboratory.
More civilized is DefBoat's Badger Island Marina in Kittery, Maine
Kim and Dick graciously let us use their slip
which provided us with a great view of the city of Portsmouth, NH during the day
and a not-too-shabby scene at night.
Leaving Portsmouth on the Piscatequa River (second fastest tidal river in the US) is the vacant Portsmouth Naval Prison where Walt Disney served (worked, not served time)
and heading home, you pass the Nubble Light House in York, Maine - supposedly one of the most photographed light houses in North America.
Nice neighborhood ya got there, Defboat! Who says the boating season is over? It's not even foliage season yet.
