Good Evening, back at the start of May i had to replace the starboard engine on our Sea Ray Sundancer 310; our 350; 5.7 (260ish hours) Horizon had ingested water some time ago (previous owner) reman'd heads were placed on the engine as a supposed "fix". To make a long story somewhat shorter heads did not solve the issue; the piston rings were shot and the cylinder walls were corroded.
At this time a new longblock (from Mercruiser) has been installed (15 hours have been run on the block) and the engine will only turn 4400 RPMs at WOT.
To make matters worse; the boat has been hauled (today) as the port engine (which also had water ingestion issues and reman'd heads) is going to be replaced as well. The symptom of both engines going bad was lots of blue smoke burning oil. The port engine is turning 4600 RPMs at WOT.
In the AM I am delivering the props to Atlantis Prop in NJ to have them scanned; the bottom will be cleaned while she is on the hard; but my question is this.
Should the new block turn the rated 4800 RPMs out of the crate? As well is it consistent that an engine with ring issues would not turn the rated RPMs?
