I'm off to do a project but will keep in touch. Let me just repeat my concern about lifters. I want you to be sure the CAM surfaces weren't damaged by all the pressure on the valve train. Hopefully a lifter or a few (and possibly none) will be all you need. I just don't want you to get it all back together and find you need a camshaft.
I was working on a Buick V6 that had the oil pump seize up. When it did, it broke the gear on the end of the camshaft. Turned out that this particular cam has the timing sprocket and the cam drive all cast into it as one piece. When I finally got the cam out, showed it to a mechanic friend. He pointed to one lobe and said "Good, that cam was shot anyway. I'd been after a lifter noise and thought it was the oil pump and not enough oil flow or pressure. Turned out it was a worn out camshaft. And yes, the bottom of the lifter was also buggered up.
