While preparing to install a Newport 1600 electric macerating head, I noticed that there was no metal chopper on the motor shaft. I have had the unit for about 4 years, but never got around to installing it. The exploded view on their web site shows the chopper, but the number is not on the parts list. A phone call to the company revealed the chopper is no longer used. They also stated that the "discharge impeller is rubber". Mine sure looks like it is rigid plastic. The big question is; can this plastic impeller do the required job of chopping the paper and waste without the metal chopper?
