i was working on my 8.2t detroit diesel the other day chasing a ground issue. after rectifying some corrodded wires/connections, i tried to start, but not even a sound from my buzzers and the gauges did not move. checked for broken wires, etc, none found on engine. checked for power at the switch, no power to port engine switch. starboard switch works fine. i've checked relays, looked for fuses, etc., but i'm stumped. any helpful ideas?

Were you referring to ign. switches or battery switches?

Is there an on-engine push/reset main breaker?

Have you checked any main supply fuses/breakers within a foot of the batteries or battery switches that may supply the dash including ign. sw. ?

Sandy: I was referring to the ignition switch. Ground wires & terminals replaced, ground is good. Problem is, there is no power to the port engine ignition switch. Yes, I did check the reset button mounted on the trans, confirmed proper operation.
 
There is nothing o do but simply follow the power from the battery all along the circuit looking for the problem. Check to see if relays click and pass power, check battery connections. A wire left disconnected or pulled out of the connector is suspect.
 
It's likely in the wiring you were working on check and recheck the connections! Use a volt meter to test the power going to the switch and coming out of the switch. I'm sure this is a simply issue you will find without much trouble.
 
I suspect a corroded engine harness connector, possibly the main ground buss for that engine or a positive power supply issue.

If there was corrosion issues, put a meter between batt and ground cable.(was ground cable replaced) Check continuity of ground cable itself. Some relay/solenoids are grounded...they only have one small wire coming off it. It has to have a good ground.

If all electrical systems are off, it's most likely a ground near the battery. Did you check the ground on the block, too?
 
Turned out to be a plug in connector that was partially separated. Thanks for the help.
 
As I said simply issue you would find easily glad it worked out!
