I've been telling my wife and daughter that Flip Flops on a boat are always a bad idea.
Well, although I am the Captain of my boat. My wife is the Admiral and my daughter is right behind her in rank, so I am on the "pay no mind list".
We enjoyed a great day on the boat today. It had an even better ending because nobody got seriously hurt.
Me: Flip Flops are always a bad idea on the boat, and hand Jack (our son) all of the stuff you are carrying before you try to step off the boat.
The Admiral: Looked over at me like I was just trying to be a PIA again.
Me: Shrug my shoulders and shake my head.
The Admiral: Right down between the boat and the bulkhead as her Flip Flop got caught under her foot on the swim platform.
Me: Intial reaction was shock and terror. Closely followed by that smug I told you so feeling but not daring to say it.
The Admiral: I'm fine, I'm fine (as she laughed it off).
Me: I told you so (felt a little braver once I got her out of the canal and saw she was being a sport about it).
This could have ended a whole lot worse.
BTW: Absolutely no alcohol was involved.
Now I told them it is no longer a request or a strong suggestion. Flip Flops are forbidden on the boat. If they invite friends for the day they have to pass the word to them with the invitation that they will be denied a day on the boat unless they are wearing suitable footwear.
