Hey Vic... I see on the Elegance instructions that "cleaners" based on a several different things, including formaldehyde, aren't to be used. Do I take this to mean that I can't flush CampaChem down, which is what I've always done before on my other systems? I guess I could add it through the pump out fitting, it just would be less convenient.

Ernesto, I read over the Marine Elegance Owner's Manual twice, and didn't see any reference to formaldehyde anywhere. (Of course I've been called blind before...!) Where did you see it printed?

The EPA considers formaldehyde to be a carcinogen. Plus, it tends to dry out the rubber seals and such inside the toilet. I wouldn't use it on a bet!

However, the choice is yours.

Ernesto, get some good amounts of O2 in that tank (larger vent) and you won't need anything but KO to keep the smell away. It's better to feed the "good" bacteria that doesn't smell than to kill the "bad" bacteria that does smell. IMO that is.

That sounds like a good idea in concept, but when I tried that (previous boat) it didn't work at all. That's probably because I mostly go out in 3-6 hour chunks but I stay at the marina (or other marinas) to sleep, where there is a nice toilet available and close, so the head doesn't get used all that much. I bet it gets pooped on a handful of times in a season. I think for KO to work it needs more "volume".

Try Odorlos. That's what I use. I only get a smell from the first flush after a period of non-use and that's because I have a sea water flush.
