Hey everyone,

So I come out of Worlds Fair Marina in Flushing. I'm wondering if there are any places reasonably close that i can drop anchor and do some swimming, maybe get onto land and hang out?

I'm looking for some ideas reasonably close to me if such a thing exists!

As always, thanks,
dan

Manhasset Bay (closest), Oyster Bay and the Sand Hole a little farther east and the Captain Islands on the CT side.

We keep our boat in Hempstead Harbor - NG for swimming. People do, but we don't think it's clean enough.

There is a lagoon behind Glen Island in New Rochelle near the NYAC that as long as you can get to it without hitting ang of the rocks, is a very nice place to hang and swim

Thanks guys. Manhassat Bay should be easy enough for me to find. I'll be looking for the others on charts. While the Lagoon behind Glen Island sounds ideal, the rocks statement makes me a bit nervous!!!!

Thanks again,
dan

Hey Follow up question on Captains Island.

Looks like an easy one for me. Can I get close enough to drop anchor and walk/swim to shore? This would be the first time i'm trying something like this. It looks like on the North Side of the Island it is a beach (other sides too) with some structures.

Thanks folks!!!!

later,
dan

Dan,
Yes, North side is where you want to be. Don't go in between the islands, come in from the west. The channel is clearly marked.

Like everywhere else, just keep an eye for rocks as you get closer to shore. They are easy to spot from what I recall.

One more thing. Pick up a cruising guide to the North Shore. It will giove you everything you want to know about harbors, anchorages, dock and dines etc.

Great!!!! Thanks so much! I'm looking forward to giving this a go tomorrow! I'm also on the hunt for a North Shore cruising guide!!!

Thanks,
dan
