The admiral and I are taking a boat trip the first 2 weeks of august. We haven't fully laid out the itinerary yet but are thinking that we want to spend part of that time up in the north channel. I have not been up there before and would rather have a buddy boat to rendezvous with and travel the area however it doesn't seem that any our usual suspects from around here are able to make the trip. With proper preparation and parts/gear, is this a trip that can be safely done alone? We have a 2008 Tiara 3900 Sovran.

Any input from people that have cruised the area is greatly appreciated. Secondly if there are any fellow RO's on the great lakes that have been thinking about making this trip and are available during those 2 weeks we'd be open to meeting up for a few days.

Hi Max,

I think you would be fine with your boat in travelling from your home port to the North Channel. As you know, you certainly need to be mindful of the weather conditions and have complete up to date charts of the area.

My wife and I have taken both our 25 Doral Citation and our 30 Doral Prestancia (our home port is near Detroit, Michigan on Lake St.Clair up into the North Channel a couple different times. We have not had a chance to take our 328 Four Winns up to the North Channel yet but would like to in the near future.

Beautiful boating grounds to enjoy in the North Channel.

If you would like some ideas on anchorages or just to talk in general about the area I could shoot you my phone number.

Mike.

It won't be a problem. Use due caution as there are multiple areas of reefs and rocky shoals. One thing is certain, it won't be your last trip to the North Channel.

Thanks for the input guys...

Mike, I'd love to speak when you have a free moment. You can email me your contact details to mstrycker (at) gmail.com
