In the latest NTM there was this item:
MD - KENT ISLAND NARROWS - NORTHERN APPROACH - SHOALING
There has been a report of shoaling to a depth of 2 feet MLW in the vicinity of Kent Island Narrows North Approach Light 4 (LLNR 26425) extending across the channel. Mariners are cautioned to transit this area with extreme caution. Chart: 12272.
This is at the middle of the north entrance channel. Anyone with more than a couple of feet draft had better go slow and be prepared for a grounding unless we have a real high tide.
This might be enough to make Kent Narrows a no-go for most sail boats and anyone with a larger boat. I will have to be careful as I draw 4 feet. I noticed that it was getting thin toward the end of last season and I think that it might have only been the boat traffic passing through and scouring the bottom that kept it open.
The old channel route out to the east may now have better depth. Perhpas we need to organize a small boat with a sounder and good plotter to scout it out.
In a Noreaster blow down, this area will almost be dry. I wonder if there are any plans to do some dredging.
