North Shore - Port Jeff Advise

Hi all ... been a long time.
I finally used my boat this past Saturday. I've never boated on the Norht shore before. My boat is based in Port Jeff. I took it out of the harbor, ran a cirle around the PJ head buoy and then back into the harbor. I picked up a mooring buoy behind the sandbar on the west side of the harbor entrance. After a nice brunch, I went back to the marina.
I need some day trip advise on where to go and what to do on the north shore.

As you probably know PJ it self is a popular destination on the north shore. in addition to where you picked up a mooring, many boats will anchor in pirates cove, a small cove by the dunes east of the entance inside the harbor.

Stony brook harbor would be a nice short day trip (about 10 miles). not much to do (no restaurants or places to tie up, but a pretty harbor to hang out in. The entrace is shallow and you should not try to enter or leave 2 hours either side of low tide.

Almost directly north in CT is black rock harbor(18-20 miles), home of captains cove seaport. Great place on sunday afternoons, with free docking and live music 4-7(I think), some little shops and food available.

Norwalk, CT (maybe 30 miles) has a visitor dock that you can tie up for a small fee. The town is small but nice with bars and shops. the norwalk aquarium is also there and has an imax movie.

There's a few places to get you started.
 
Sand hole? I've dreamed about this one but I can't convince the s.o.. She feels it's too risky for our boat.
 
The sand hole is awesome, go during the week and grab a mooring.
