One of my favorite boating magazines, Northeast Boating, will cease publishing as of December 31st. Too bad, it covered our boating area with many interesting articles, great boating destinations and cruising options. I, for one, will miss it.

Was this announced somewhere? The recent issue just said they were skipping January and going to 11 issues a year.

Best boating magazine, this is too bad if true. Although, it's probably due to the total screw-up of voting Half Moon Bay as the best marina in the Northeast.

Will they refund me for the rest of my subscription?

I read that they were skipping December and going for 11 issues next year. Steve

haven't they been on the 11 issue per year for a couple of years now?

Honestly I have never seen the mag but if they voted Halfmoon bay the best marina in the northeast then I'm not sure I'd want to read it.

John, "they" did not vote Halfmoon the best, the people who own the slips there flooded the ballot box, presumably to increase the value of their "investments". If you look at Boating on the Hudson, Half Moon predominantly adverstises that they were voted 'best in the Northeast'

If you have never read the magazine, you are missing out. It has great articles about local places and marinas.

That bolsters my reasoning Mike. If you're going to call something the "best" how about checking it out yourself? How can any of the other articles be worth reading if they don't bother to fact check?

Seriously, I'm sure it was a great magazine at one time but it would seem they started digging their own grave a while ago.

Are you suggesting that Half Moon Bay is not the most desirable destination in the entire Northeast?

Why after all, they have docks and, uh, er, ice, and, uh, er, - did I say 'docks'? Why go to Block Island, Martha's Vineyard, Mystic, Belmar, Sandy Hook, Greenport, Montauk, or all those other so-so destinations when you can go right over to Half Moon Bay and enjoy their docks?

After being on the hook at Croton for a few days HMB is a great place to go to get a bag of ice and look at the same Cruisers Yachts that never sell year after year!

And to have the cheap dock master try to charge you $20 to drop someone off.

But they have docks!....That alone would make you overlook some of the faults...
But then they did let me tie up in one of there empty slips this year so I could look at some of the speed boats were there for the fun run. In fact someone even helped me tie my boat up.

Come to think of it, they are the 2nd best place. We all know PBM is the 1st...

I am...er, was, a member of their epanel and got the news in an email from the editor. The last issue will provide details about selecting a different publication to fulfill your current subscription term. They made mention of possibly trying to maintain an online version of some sort, but he didn't provide many details.

I hope that is not true. I just sent in payment for the next 3 years renewal that I was billed for. The check has not even cleared yet. If it is going out of business then they are very unprofessional, and I am out $60.00 - that could be 20 gallons of diesel fuel for next year.

20 gallons, that's enough to warm up the engines and idle out to the middle of the river!

My wife will be thrilled to hear this, one less magazine stacked in the bathroom.

This sucks.
