This should benefit many boaters in the Metro NY, Long Island area. Brought to you by your local cable provider Cablevision.

Cablevision up to 75,000 hotspots for Wi-Fi service

Cablevision announced this morning that its Wi-Fi service, Optimum WiFi, was now enabled across more than 75,000 hotspots in its New York Metropolitan footprint.

Cablevision also said its Wi-Fi service has been used more than one million times by its subscribers since it was first launched in Long Island back in 2008. Cablevision was an early adopter of Wi-Fi and reportedly spent an estimated $300 million in the early going of its network build out.

It's one of the only reasons I keep Optimum for my home internet.
Plus they have roaming wifi, my ipad and iphone once connected, stay connected and if it drops in 1 cell it grabs it automaticlally in next and I don't have to sign on again!

And yet I still can't receive it at my marina:(

We have a hot spot at PBM, I connect to it all the time.

I know out here on the island if a biz asks CV for a hot spot they often will set one up when they can get to it.

I don't believe for a minute that the marina wants them to install one being they are currently charging to for the service.

I have been on several jobs where they installed hotspots without even asking, in fact they even used wiring that I had run for the customer but they thought it was OK to cut and use as if they were run for them. Needless to say this create a bit of an issue!
