This is pretty crappy, no pun intended. Not that I have the ability to discharge my holding tank in the water, but the impact is pretty minimal. And there are not so many pumpout stations on the north shore.
In theory, there should be no need to pay that absurd fee to Old Man's. The Mount Sinai harbor has a free pump out at the town dock by the tower. HOWEVER - they don't always work. You might have to call the tower to get them to turn it on. And they shut it down before the fishing season is over. And the dock is pretty lousy.
There is a single pumpout station in Port Jeff harbor: on the sea wall between the town dock and the boat ramp. The dock here is pretty ratty (unstable, nails sticking out), and not very big. I have a 27 footer and it feels cramped. Plus, the station often is full. And it also shuts down before the fishing season is over. The PJ pumpout boat tools around on weekends, but is very hard to flag down. It's service also ends in September.
Basically, there is not enough reliable pumpout capacity.
