Basically the marina is tight but navigable. The town is great, plenty of places to eat. You can try and dock at one of the restaurants then eat, then walk around if you want to save some money. Matthews is on the water next to the marina.
To get there from Zachs, go back out to state channel and head east, just stay in state channel, watch the 5mph zones. When you pass Captree, this will be the last 5mph zone, then head towards fire island, you will see the lighthouse at this point, this is fire island. Stay in channel, it snakes around but is clearly marked. You will see people cutting it, do it at your own risk, they think they are experts. Ocean Beach is just south of red 14 and green 15. Marina is west of ferry.
Plenty of good places to eat and good beaches. Not sure what its like a holiday weekend.
Restaurants and areas with docking in OB moving from W to E.
Town docks first choice w/ seawall and best rates (no estaurant though). Island Mermaid also has slips, not reccommended unless desperate. Next Hausers which might be one of the best bars in OB. Good tunes good food. Next up Matthews also great food and a good scene. That's it for OB. Next down the line Seaview. Town marina only here extremely pricey.
If you move down to OB Park Flynns comes to mind
Btw. the ride from Zach's to OB thru the SBC is closer to 1.5 hours. Speed zones are very long and if the greenies are out you will be mighty tempted to open up. If the tides are out you need to watch for shoaling along the N edge of the SBC around Gilgo.
Hope That Helps
