I am an engineer and the problem with the south shore can be summed up in two words....litoral drift. Without dealing with the ENTIRE South Shore, from Jones Inlet to Montauk Point with one coordinated plan, you are just pissing in the wind. We need hardened inlets and jetties along the entire length to deal with displacement of sand. That's not likely to happen so we are left with temporaary solutions that need to be redone over and over again. The real solution would cost hundreds of millions if not a billion dollars or more, but that is the only real hope the south shore of Long Island has for a long term solution. Unfortunately, politicians and the ACOE can't see past their noses for anything more than short term solutions.
