Officers plan weekend boating-rules crackdown

The Coast Guard and law enforcement boat patrols are working together this weekend to stem the tide of accidents on the Delta.

Operation Delta Blitz II will be a partnership between Coast Guard and sheriff's departments in Sacramento, Yolo, Solano, San Joaquin and Contra Costa counties. In addition, the state Department of Fish and Game and the Suisun Police Department will be part of an increased law enforcement presence this weekend.

Coast Guard boating statistics indicate that despite a decrease in the number of boating-related deaths, on-the-water accidents remain on the rise.

The most common causes include drunken boating, reckless operation and speeding.

We recently invited non-boating friends to join us at dock for a morning coffee. On stepping aboard our 37'sailboat they asked if it was hard to get a license to operated such a large boat. I said is was impossible to get licensed, since there is no licensing. They couldn't believe it.

I would love to see more enforcement of existing laws, especially if moise pollution is on the books. Maybe we can balance the state budget on the backs of the reckless, which I am sure fines is on their minds, far more than safety.

I'm with you, I hate moise's. Moise's give me the heebe geebees. I've seen moises do things in and around the water that would make your hair curl. Things I would'nt want the Mrs to see. You can't tell me that moises aren't the cause of alot of this worlds problems. I say sterilize the little criters, run them moises of the edge of the earth. Period! I have to admit, little baby moises are kinda cute.

You neglected to mention, or prehaps you do not know, how good they are fried with some garlic and onions. Use your bait scoop to round up a mess of them, and.. well.. I guess everyone here knows what to do.
