Well, its official like Brian the 28 Slick is now gone to its new life. So sad, what a great boat. On the day they took it to Bellingham, the winds were blowing up good. I only wish I got to take the ride with em. I bet they hit port with permagrin and finally realized just what they bought!!!
Oh well, so now I have a check in hand and I'm going to put a portion of it towards new toys for the boat. I'm starting with Floscans and moving on to the boat puter. I just put up a 32 inch Sony LCD so when not watching satellite, I'll use it for a puter monitor. Now I just need a puter. I'm going to build this one, so I have to consider all the ways I might want to use it
Here's my initial list, but see what the rest of you can come up with too!
1.) Navigation Software
1.b) Wireless Internet connection to keep in touch with Boatered.
2.) Media Center.
3.) Output to the boat stereo and play music stored on the computer.
4.) Some way to interface with the computer at home to upload music from my home office to it. Also upload waypoints/route's from a copy of the nav software at home so it's ready on the boat when I get there.
5.) Interface with the boat gps to upload waypoints from the boat computer.
6.) Security Cameras. Access them from home or the internet and be able to a.)look at the electrical panel and see if the power is on or bilge pumps are running. b.) look elsewhere on the boat, maybe a live cam like Pascal

For the techies out there, I'm told that the video cards are the biggest power drains. I need to find a video card good enough for playing video (media center) but I don't need something for gaming. I'm hoping to keep the power requirements down that way. Also, I don't think I have found any real sources for credible dc-dc power supplies so I think this runs off the inverter. All I have found for 12v power supplies are car based machines that are not very powerful at all.
