Greetings...

We purchased an older model Luhrs 40, (1989) late in the fall. We had a 31 Carver and decided to go bigger. Loved our Carver and hoping we will love this one just as much but this is the oldest boat we have had. So far so good. Good survey with all the things you expect to find/fix, no surprises except found the waste tank too small. We will have a busy summer getting her to our standands thou but looking forward to it. I found this site and hope it will be helpful with the tons of questions we may get. Anybody familiar with this boat? Any info appreciated.

Plan on cruising and fishing the Great Lakes. Come on spring!!!

Congratulations on the new boat. We had a Luhrs when I was in my teens (70's). Lots of great memories on that boat.

Congradulations on your Luhrs,I had the 1989 40ft. SF with the half tower.I'm in the G.Lakes also & did a lot of trolling for Salmon.Holding tank is definately small.Had a lot of good times with my Luhrs. If you have any questions, let me know.

Thanks Kole and thanks to the rest of you for the warm welcome. I'm sure we will have a lot. Plan on Salmon, muskie and walleye mainly.

BTW-Kole, do you happen to know if there was Balsa wood used in that years hull. Surveyor said yes, but broker, first owner and other owners said no. Tried contacting Luhrs with no luck on an answer. Thought you might know.

Thanks...

Had a '76, 28' for 10 years. Sold it for $1K more than I paid for it. Absolutely trouble free for the 10 years I owned it.

Good luck with your Luhrs, I have an older Mainship after they were purchased by Luhrs a 40 Sedan Bridge. I love my boat it might be similar to yours. I replaced a 35 gallon holding tank with a 45 gallon for extra capacity it was a tight fit. You might want to think about changing your head to a VacuFush they don't use much water so pump outs are less frequent. Again good luck with your new boat. Regards Bill

JustReelaxin,I'm sorry to say I don't know. All my transducers were already in place, not to mention it would kill me to drill a hole in any hull.

Luhrs/ Silverton/ Mainship are all part of the same company. Silverton uses solid glass hulls with coring in the hullsides, so I'm gonna take a stab at saying Luhrs does too

Gee, why I didn't I think of that, Flutterby. Thanks I'll try that.

BillyIII-not a bad thought.

Thanks again everyone, I appreciate it.

Hulls are solid glass, decks are cored with divinicel, a type of foam. Seems to be impervious to water. I soaked a piece in water for a few days and it didn't seem to soak up any.

I have a 1989 Luhrs, 342 Tournment. The hulls are solid glass the decks are balsa cored. I had to repair the deck on my boat as the previous owner had drilled and bolted a mounting plate in the deck without sealing it. I replaced the 12 gallon holding tank and head with Vacuflush head and a 36 gallon holding tank. My wife and I can now go about two weeks at anchor before having it pumped. We purchased this boat in 1995 and have made many upgrades. It has been a great boat for us. I make a few trips 90 to 100 miles offshore to the canyons in the Northeast for tuna and the Luhrs has never let me down.

Have owned my 89 Luhrs since 93. Great boat. Couple of pix in jmas photo album.

Got ya all beat. One of my first boats was a 1958, 28 foot Luhrs with twin Gray Marine flat head sixes.

Joe-is there a photo album somewhere on this site? Guess I better poke around and look I'd like to see.

Ken-1958! Wow.
